Historical Context
Al-Busiri composed the Qasida al-Burda during the Mamluk period in Egypt, shortly after the Mongol destruction of Baghdad. The poem became an enormously important cultural and spiritual anchor for Muslim communities across the world, recited in times of crisis, illness, and celebration for centuries afterward.

Egyptian Arab poet born in 1213 in Minya, whose Qasida al-Burda (Poem of the Cloak) is one of the most beloved and widely memorised poems in the Islamic world, composed as a devotional tribute to the Prophet Muhammad. He reportedly wrote it after a dream in which the Prophet cured him of paralysis.
