Every generation faces its own defining challenge — a question of what it will stand for or fail to do. You can rise to that challenge or look away. But there is no neutral option: choosing not to act is itself a choice with consequences.

Fanon wrote The Wretched of the Earth while working as a psychiatrist during the Algerian War of Independence. He died of leukemia the same year the book was published, having devoted his final years to the cause of African liberation. The book became essential reading for liberation movements around the world.
