Big change doesn't always need massive resources or movements. A single determined person with access to education and the tools to learn can set off ripples that reshape entire communities. This is a reminder that every individual moment of learning matters enormously.

Yousafzai delivered this in her address to the United Nations Youth Assembly on July 12, 2013 — her 16th birthday — less than a year after surviving a Taliban gunshot to the head. The speech drew global attention to the millions of children, especially girls, denied access to education.
