Real love doesn't need a reason — it isn't conditional on someone being useful, beautiful, or deserving. The moment you ask 'why do I love this person,' you've already reduced love to something smaller than itself. Love is its own cause, its own justification.
Quote by Marguerite Porete: “Love has no why.”

Historical Context
Marguerite Porete was executed in Paris in 1310 after refusing, for 18 months, to withdraw her theological work from circulation. Her death came during the suppression of the Free Spirit movement by the French Inquisition, at a time when mystical theology that bypassed Church authority was considered direct heresy.
About the Author
Medieval French mystic and author of The Mirror of Simple Souls, written in the late 13th century. She taught that the soul must annihilate itself in union with divine love, a doctrine the Church found heretical. She was burned at the stake in Paris in 1310 rather than recant her writings.
