Samori Touré led the Wassoulou Empire's resistance against France from the 1870s until his capture in 1898. France was aggressively expanding its control across West Africa, and Touré's nineteen-year military campaign was one of the longest and most organised resistance efforts against European colonialism on the continent.
About the Author
Mandinka emperor and military leader who built the Wassoulou Empire in West Africa and led one of the most sustained military resistances against French colonial expansion in the late nineteenth century. He was captured by the French in 1898 and died in captivity in 1900.
