Faith is not about certainty or proof. It is acting — and even celebrating — before you can see the outcome. Like a bird singing before sunrise, true faith trusts that light is coming even when everything still looks dark. It is hope with commitment behind it.

Tagore wrote Gitanjali, from which this image is drawn, during a period of personal grief following the deaths of his wife, two children, and father. Its publication in English in 1912 and the subsequent Nobel Prize in 1913 made him the first Asian writer to receive the award.

Bengali poet, philosopher, and artist from Calcutta who became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. His collection Gitanjali, a sequence of devotional poems, brought him international recognition. He founded the Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan and composed the national anthems of both India and Bangladesh.
