Uruguayan poet considered one of the most daring and original voices in Latin American modernism, whose erotic and mystical verse scandalized and fascinated readers in equal measure. She published her most celebrated collection, El rosario de Eros, in 1924, though she was murdered in 1914 at age twenty-seven.
