Greek philosopher from Abdera who lived approximately 460–370 BCE. He developed — along with his teacher Leucippus — the earliest atomic theory, proposing that all matter is made of indivisible particles. He was also a prolific moral philosopher, earning the nickname 'the Laughing Philosopher' for his cheerful temperament.
