Athenian statesman and orator who lived 384–322 BCE, considered the greatest orator of ancient Greece. He devoted his career to warning Athens about the threat posed by Philip II of Macedon through his famous Philippic speeches. He died by suicide after the Macedonians defeated the last Greek resistance.
