Indian Hindu monk and philosopher who introduced Vedanta and Yoga to Western audiences through his landmark address at the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago in 1893. A disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, he founded the Ramakrishna Mission and advocated for a synthesis of spiritual development and social service. His Complete Works remain widely read across India and the West.
