Real understanding comes through experience, not just instruction. We don't fully know what loss is until we lose something, what courage is until we're frightened. Aeschylus is saying that growth is inseparable from pain — and that even rest doesn't entirely stop the slow accumulation of wisdom through suffering.
Quote by Aeschylus: “He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep, pain falls drop by drop.”
He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep, pain falls drop by drop.
