Frank wrote this in her diary on July 15, 1944, while in hiding in the secret annex in Amsterdam. The Allied D-Day landings had taken place just weeks earlier, offering some hope of liberation, but the Frank family would be discovered and arrested in August 1944. Anne died of typhus in Bergen-Belsen in February 1945.
