Azerbaijani Sufi poet born around 1494 in Karbala, who wrote in Azerbaijani Turkish, Persian, and Arabic, and is considered one of the greatest poets in the Turkish literary tradition. His Leyli and Majnun is widely regarded as one of the finest reworkings of the classic love story in any language.
