Poniatowska was working on Querida Diego, te abraza Quiela in 1978, a novel in letters imagining the voice of the Russian painter Angelina Beloff, who was abandoned by Diego Rivera. Mexico City was a center of Latin American literary and intellectual life, and Poniatowska was one of its most prominent public voices.
About the Author
Mexican journalist and novelist, winner of the Cervantes Prize in 2013, considered one of the most important voices in Latin American literature and investigative journalism. Her 1971 chronicle La Noche de Tlatelolco documented the 1968 student massacre through survivor testimonies.
